Nyt on yö.
Minä kuljen yksin
tyhjiä katuja.
En tiedä, mihin olen menossa,
hyvä kun tiedän mistä
olen tulossa,
ja ruumiissani
soi tuhat kaunista ja
voimakasta sävelmää,
minun koko menneisyyteni,
ja silmissäni loistavat
tuhannen ihmisen silmät,
silmien takana tuntemattomuus,
tätä naista ei tunne kukaan,
se ei ole vielä täysin syntynytkään,
ei kukaan tiedä
mitä se on tulevaisuudessa.

Necuvintele

El
un om singur

The Hermit’s Song

A hiding tuft, a green-barked yew tree
Is my roof,
While nearby a great oak tree keeps me
Tempest-proof.

I can pick my fruit from an apple
Like an Inn,
Or can fill my fist where hazels
Shut me in.

A clear well beside me offers
Best of drink,
And there glows a bed of cresses
Near its brink.

Pigs and Goats, the friendliest neighbours,
Nestle near,
Wild swine come, or broods of badgers,
Grazing deer.

All the gentry of the county
Come to call!
And the foxes come behind them,
Best of all.

To what meals the woods invite me
All about!
There are water, herbs and cresses,
Salmon, trout.

A clutch of eggs, sweet mast and honey
Are my meat,
Heathberries and Whortleberries
For a sweet.

All that one could ask for comfort
Round me grows,
There are hips and haws and strawberries,
Nuts and sloes.

And when summer spreads its mantle
What a sight!
Marjoram and leeks and pignuts,
Juicy, bright.

Dainty redbreasts briskly forage
Every bush
Round and round my hut there flutter
Shallow, thrush.

Bees and beetles, music-makers,
Croon and strum;
Geese pass over, duck in autumn,
Dark streams hum.

Angry wren, officious linnet
And black-cap,
All industrious, and the woodpecker’s
Sturdy tap.

From the sea the gulls and herons
Flutter in,
While in upland heather rises
The grey hen.

In the year’s most brilliant weather
Heifers low
Through green fields, not driven nor beaten,
Tranquil, slow.

In wreathed boughs the wind is whispering,
Skies are blue,
Swans call, river water falling
Is calling too.

- Unknown old Irish poet

Porca miseria!

Finally, Eva's escapade "Asphalt mirrors" has been translated into Italian and published on the website eravamotreamicialpub.it! Go on, click it - there is a bulldog, Che Guevara, naked women, a dreamy forest and Eva on the front page!

It's so much fun to read the comic in Italian!!

Bankhar mä!

I published some pictures of Mongolian doggies on Flickr.

Lovely Bankhar after a mudbath

Those are only the pictures from my digital camera. I'll get my films developed soon, so there will be more doggies added. I especially hope that the ones with the theme "dog chasing our car in the desert" (just like the cool photographs by John Divola) turned out okay ...

Mitsu is gone.

Mitsu passed away yesterday, eleven years and eight months old.

Now she can run free in the stygian forests, eating bambis all day long, and not even the cancer can hurt her anymore.

She will always be my little baby.

I photographed some kickass abandoned industrial sites yesterday.

The weather was really funny as I biked to this area. One minute it was bright sunlight, and in the next, the strong winds had blown a raincloud over my head, so that I got drenched ... but if I changed my direction a bit, I got out of the rain again.

Gouache

I've been asked to do a reportage for the main Swedish magazine about comics, Bild & Bubbla, about the publishing company where I'm working as a trainee. I just found out that they want me to do it in comics form, 4 pages.
At first I was somehow a bit annoyed, and thought, "I see ... so they think I can't write well enough!!?"
Then I stopped to think ... and realised something: "WAAAH! This means they actually want me to draw comics rather than write articles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The latter was actually a bit of a no-brainer, since it's a magazine about comics for people who love comics, by people who love comics. But this episode is an interesting example of how I've brainwashed myself to regard drawing comics as something of less worth than, say, writing. Bad Tinet. Baaaad Tinet ...

Anyway, I have the option of doing it in colour, and that will surely be interesting. I've never ever made any comics in colour, and I haven't been painting seriously with colours for many, many years now.

To make it worse, I got the impulse to try a medium for it that I've never used before - gouache. Now that I've tried it a bit, I rather like it. It can be opaque like oils or acrylics, but also transparent like watercolours, and it has a slightly rough, grainy quality. It seems like the perfect middle thing between the three, all of which I've always felt a little bit unsatisfied with - oils stink and take a week to dry, acrylics have a too 'plastic' quality, and watercolours are hard to control and almost impossible to make opaque.

I made character studies of my coworkers to test my abilities and different techniques:

I suppose that in the comic I'll go for a style closer to the one I used for my boss (to the left), because it's a pain in the ass to colour people's skin ...

Huh?

Someone from Saudi Arabia (according to the country code) just dialed the wrong number and called my mobile phone. Unfortunately, he seemed to be just as confused as I was, so we didn't manage to have any interesting conversation ...

My new tablet

I got it for my birthday from Mihai, who is easily the finest man to ever have taken my virginity. >:(:))

After the first half an hour or so of using it, I can say that it's still a bit tricky, but I suppose I'll get used to it eventually. Hardly surprising, I get the best results when I enlarge the picture a lot, since the A6-size tablet surface corresponds with the whole screen (of course, I'm working with a high resolution). The board also has a scrolling wheel* and two customizable buttons, which I set on 'zoom in' and 'zoom out'.

I like how the brush strokes respond to pressure.

But I can't write with it in my normal handwriting ...!

--------------
* Since I'm working with an "Apple Mighty Mouse" all the time at the office, I kind of miss the scrolling ball that lets you scroll not only vertically, but in any direction ...
